Pamperhair time! Ready for some hot oil treatment? ;)

Hello, girls!

I’ve been doing the hot oil hair treatment for almost a year now and it’s time to share some hair love! Interested? ๐Ÿ™‚

My hair normally don’t need that kind of treatment, because they’re great as far as I don’t bleach them. Yes, as far as I don’t bleach them. I’ve been a dark hairer for almost all my life, but got an itch for going blonde approximately three years ago and – well, I bleached them all. It took five hours at the hairdresser and double bleaching, and the result was breathtaking! The quality of my hair after these treatments? Not so much.

How I discovered hot oil treatment

My hair became dry, brittle, and my ponytail looked like a mop with all the split ends already on the second day of washing my hair. Not to mention that combing them was another science fiction task. It drove me crazy. I never had any problems with my hair and all of a sudden I was crazed over finding a product that would give my hair a healthier & better look.

Then the beauty era came, I started to contribute at a Slovenian beauty forum, and some months later also writing my own blog. My life will never be the same, honestly! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜‰ And that’s the time when I discovered a method called HOT OIL TREATMENT. Till then, my bathroom was already filled with various hair aids, but not one product till then catched my interest. Everything was too much mess! If I put oil on my split ends, I had to be extra careful not to put on too much – otherwise, my hair looked greasy. Next stop. Spraying my hair with god-knows-which-products-already to give them a healthy shine and repair my split ends: apply too mush, and it ends in stickiness. Aaaargh, not for me. And what’s more, I really try to minimize creepy ingredients I put on myself. Those hair products sure had many.

Somewhere after 10 months of turing blonde I coloured my hair again – this time to my natural brunette colour and it was a keeper. Of course, the damage stayed. And showed.

When I first tried out the hot oil treatment, I was amazed: my hair looked healthy, were shining like diamonds, and detangling them actually was a task that finally could be done without scraping all my hair off my scalp.

The essentials for hot oil treatment

So, what will you need?

  • time (anywhere from half an hour to a few hours will do ๐Ÿ˜‰ )
  • some coconut oil (or some other oil, if you will)
  • a knife (to cut the hardened oil in small pieces)
  • a container (to warm those pieces up till they melt into oil literally)
  • a comb
  • some tin foil
  • a blowdryer
  • a dry towel
  • time (did I already mention that? ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

Step by step:

1. Melt the oil.

Coconut oil is hardened into a white compact butter when stored on room temperature.

You’ll have to warm it up beforeย applying it all over your hair. Take a spoon (or two) of oil and break it into little pieces with a knife. Put them into a container, and put that container in a bowl of hot water to warm up. In approximately 5 minutes your oil will be liquid and ready for use.

I buy my coconut fat in Hofer for a price around 2โ‚ฌ (which is sooo affordable!). One pack contains 250g of coconut fat. Here’s how the packaging looks:

2. Apply it on your hair.

Now the messy part: apply the oil with your fingers all over your hair. Be sure to cover all length! You can even doย yourself a scalp massage and massage the oil into the skin of your scalp too (If you’re having problems with dandruff, this could help; on the other side, coconut oil might not be the right for you and you should search for an oil that suits you better!). After you’re done, it’s time to comb your hair and collect it on the top of your head.

3. Make it warm, warm, WARM!

Now you’ll need to make a warm & fuzzy environment for your hair to drink up all that oil. My recommendation is to wrap your hair in tin foil first. Yes, you will look like an alien, but what the heck! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜‰ After making sure that the tin foil is to stay on your head, blow some hot air on it – you’re actually warming up the hair beneath, thus making ideal circumstances for your hair to take up all that oil into their structure. When you’re satisfied with the temperature, wrap your head in a dry big towel (yes, over the tin foil, that’s correct!).

4. Take some relaxing time for yourself and let your hair take up the oil.

It is recomended to leave the oil in at least for half an hour. If willing, leave it in for more time (I’m doing this at the moment and the second hour of sinking the oil in is in progress! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). I like to do this on my “pamperdays”, when I’m at home and at no rush.

5. Rinse well!

When you’ve had enough, rinsing out your hair is the next step. You’ll probably need two shampooings for rinsing all the remaining oil out. Maybe even three, if you put on really a lot of oil. I recommend smaller quantities, because being economic with oil, water and shampoo consumption is a must in nowadays world – we do take care of our environment, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

6. Proceed as normal after washing your hair.

If you have any products that you like to put on your hair after washing them, there’s no problem in applying them. It won’t do any harm. Your hair will definitely look much better after this treatment though, so I recommend skipping all the normal after-care for the first time, just so you get a grip on how your hair is behaving themselves after hot oil treatment. You’ll probably be nicely surprised! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Some final thoughts

I like to do this treatment every month or so. I do it on my “pamperdays”, as already told, because I really like my hair to get the most out of it.

Those hair beautifying products I used before all went flying straight to the trash can when I discovered this hot oil treatment. The only things I still use are also the products I used before: a hair mask after shampooing and a heat-proof moisturizer before blowdrying. That’s it!

If you have any questions on this method, I’ll be more than happy to help; just leave a comment and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Have a lovely thursday, my ladies!
